Beckham: Fame

1997 - David Beckham met and started dating pop star and Spice Girl Victoria Adams (Posh Spice). Beckham eventually proposed to Victoria in 1998 and the couple married on July 4th, 1999. By the wedding the couple had already had their first son, 4 month old Brooklyn Joseph Beckham, born on March 4th, 1999.

1998 - Beckham received a red card during the 1998 World Cup for kicking opponent Diego Simeone after being fouled. England went on to lose the match, thus being eliminated from the world cup. The blame for England's lose was placed on Beckham. He came under abuse and criticism for some time after these events. Effigies of him were hung, dart boards with his face on them were made, David Beckham even received death threats.

2003 - After Manchester United lost in a game to Arsenal, team manager Alex Furgeson kicked a football boot which struck Beckham in the head. Beckham required stitches for the strike, and Beckham's relationship with Furgeson was permanently damaged.

Beckham received an Order of the British Empire for services to football on June 13th, 2003.

2004 - David Beckham had an alleged affair with his then assistant Rebecca Loos, who then went on to “celebrity” reality TV shows and to host X-rated programs.

A week later, Malaysian born Australian model Sarah Marbeck claimed that she too had an affair with David Beckham. Beckham denied all these claims, and Victoria stayed by his side the whole time.

An intruded nearly broke into the Beckhams' home while Victoria and his sons were home. The man climbed an outer wall carrying a can of petrol. Security guards stopped the man before he could reach the house.

Beckham admitted to being purposely ejected in an England game against Wales. Beckham had recieved an injury during the game that he knew would prevent him from playing in the next match. He took the opportunity to foul an opponent and get himself suspended from the next game, which he would not have been healthy enough to play in anyway.

2005 - David Beckham was made a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and helped to promote London’s successful bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.

2007- Beckham established football academies in both Los Angeles and London. The Newest academy, in California, has been overrun by eager soccer-star-wannabes whose parents are willing to shell out hundreds of dollars a day for the pricey summer day camp. The Soccer academies are so successful it is likely that many more will open across the country.
